Job summary

Charleston County Public Library seeks a Library Associate to assist patrons with locating resources, checking out materials, and using library systems. You will shelve materials, update records, and help patrons access print and online resources.

Excellent customer service, strong listening and communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team are essential. Evening and weekend availability is required, with opportunities for growth within the library system.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalence.
• 3 years library experience preferred; OR Associates degree and 1-year library experience preferred; OR Bachelor's or higher.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Must possess excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn new tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with locating resources and checking out materials.
• Update patron records, place holds on materials and issue library cards.
• Responsible for shelving books and other library materials.
• Assist patrons with use of print reference resources and online databases.
• Serve as point person of circulation department in supervisor's absence.
• Aid in training and onboarding of new staff.
• Must be comfortable proactively helping customers across service desks and channels.
• Perform routine desk duties under supervision and help patrons with technology.
