Job summary

The New York Public Library (NYPL) is seeking a Library Information Assistant to provide service to patrons of all ages. This role includes circulation/reference support, assisting with outreach, and helping plan and deliver library programs.

Candidates will guide users through resources, teach basic Internet and library applications, and uphold library policies in a dynamic urban library environment.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering information queries and reference service to patrons of all ages.
• Customer-oriented with ability to guide users to resources.
• Familiarity with library programs, Internet and computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Provides circulation/reference service to patrons using print, media, and digital resources.
• Answers questions from the public in person, by phone, and online.
• Performs community outreach to promote library services and participation.
• Assists in planning and delivering library programs for children, teens, and adults.
• Instructs patrons on using the Internet and library computer applications.
• Manages fines, holds, and opening/closing procedures as needed.
• Ensures patrons follow library policies and procedures.
• May assist in managing the facility and operations in the absence of the Library Manager.
