Job summary

The New York Public Library is seeking a Library Information Assistant for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library. You will provide information queries, circulation services, and support outreach and programming. A customer-service mindset and a love of helping patrons explore resources are essential.

Under general supervision, you may assist with programs for children, teens, and adults and help patrons use Internet and library technologies. Expected 35-hour work week; strong team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Proven public service experience with diverse patrons.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google apps, PCs and Macs.
• Knowledge of online searching, social media and reference resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide circulation/reference service and instruction using print, media and digital resources.
• Answer questions in person, by phone, and electronically.
• Conduct community outreach to promote library services.
• Assist in planning and delivering programs for children, teens, and adults.
• Instruct patrons on Internet use and library technologies.
• Assist with fines, fees, collection development, reserves, and procedures.
