Job summary

Howard County Library System is seeking a part-time Customer Service Specialist at the East Columbia Branch. You will welcome customers, assist with checkout desks, the copy center, and self-checkout, and provide information on library services and events.

The role requires strong communication, empathy, and a positive, proactive attitude. The position supports open/close duties, weekend and evening shifts, and promotes an inclusive, welcoming environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency certificate.
• People skills - ability to work effectively with staff and customers of various races and ethnicities and enjoy it.
• Minimum two years providing extraordinary customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to be positive, adaptable, and forward-thinking.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers at East Columbia Branch and provide memorable customer service.
• Check materials in and out; assist with copy center and self-checkout tasks.
• Assist with events and classes; help prepare rooms as needed.
• Provide information about products and services and resolve customer issues.
• Maintain regular attendance and support open/close duties as assigned.
