Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a Customer Services Specialist at the Southeast Branch in Groveport, OH. The position is part-time (20/24 hours per week, non-exempt) with a starting pay range of $18.01 to $23.26 per hour, commensurate with experience.

The role serves as the primary contact for customers, resolving questions, guiding patrons to resources, managing accounts, and supporting daily branch operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Internet and database services.
• Ability to operate library technology including PC, email, Windows/Microsoft Office, and other job-related equipment.
• Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements.

Responsibilities

• Processes and sorts materials accurately; handles returns, reservations, and new materials as needed.
• Greets customers and answers basic reference and directional questions in person, by phone, email, or chat; assists with library technology.
• Assists customers with library card accounts, processes applications, verifies information, explains rules, collects payments, and ensures account accuracy.
• Manages money at the location, including balancing cash drawers and preparing deposits.
• Resolves customer account disputes by interviewing, analyzing information, and negotiating.
• Supports location operations including opening/closing, ordering supplies, and maintaining displays and bulletin boards.
• Maintains library collection by identifying problems, cleaning materials, withdrawing/donated items, and pulling materials for review.
• Provides training on library technology to customers and staff; coordinates with IT as needed.
• Coordinates volunteer activities and orients volunteers to tasks.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
