Job summary

The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Customer Adviser at the Mt. Healthy Branch to provide direct customer service, circulation, reference assistance, technology support, and directional help.

The 20-hour weekly position requires evening and weekend availability; duties include processing holds, assisting patrons with devices, shelving, readers’ advisory, and supporting branch operations. Equal opportunity employer; committed to diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Skill in customer service.
• Ability to arrange materials in alphabetical and numerical order.
• Ability to work independently and with coworkers with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use technology applicable to library duties.
• Lifting objects up to 50 pounds and carrying them short distances.
• Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds.
• Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Circulates materials to customers, including checking materials in/out, holds, registering, and fees.
• Assists customers with various technologies.
• Shelves returned materials.
• Searches for requested materials.
• Performs readers’ advisory and reference services.
• Participates in location duties and order processing.
• Assists in collection maintenance, including weeding and shelving accuracy.
• Assists with programs, displays, and meeting room approvals.
• Refer customers’ issues to managers as needed.
• Prepares and deposits money from fees.
• Serve as person-in-charge in absence of leadership.
• Interprets policies and procedures to the public.
• Supports the Library’s mission of connecting people with ideas and information.
• Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
• Complies with workplace policies and all rules and standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
