Job summary

George Mason University Libraries at the Mason Square Library in Arlington, VA, is seeking a part-time, non-student wage employee to provide courteous patron assistance at the service desk and support the Access Services team.

The role includes helping with closing procedures, handling fines and payments, and assisting with outreach and events as needed. This on-site position operates Monday through Thursday evenings, totaling ~20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of library service platforms / ILS, office software, or computer equipment.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Aptitude for accurate and detail-oriented work.
• Solid organizational skills, incl. prioritization and deadlines.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills in a diverse academic environment.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to stay calm and exercise sound judgment under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous assistance at the circulation desk for library patrons.
• Coordinate with Access Services staff to close Mason Square Library on assigned days.
• Handle charges, returns, fines, and basic reference questions; work with student assistants.
• Serve as senior point of contact to coordinate with facilities during peak times.
