Job summary

The State of Ohio is seeking a capable office support professional to assist a representative in Columbus. The role involves scheduling, mail handling, file maintenance, and addressing constituent inquiries.

It supports drafting legislation and tracking progress of bills with the LSC and staff. Key duties include managing district office operations, coordinating meetings, staff support for committees, and travel arrangements for the member.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or two years of relevant legislative experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Understands legislative process and terminology.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the district office at the Riffe Center.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls to the district office at the Riffe Center.
  • Staffs member for committee, session, and legislative meetings at the Riffe Center and the Statehouse.
  • Prepares documents and copies materials for member and constituents for legislative meetings.
  • Organizes and plans meetings and attends with member when needed.
  • Greets visitors in the Riffe lobby on behalf of the member and escorts them to the member's office.
  • Opens, sorts and responds to district mail; coordinates outgoing mailings.
  • Drafts writing assignments on behalf of the representative (letters, speeches, press releases).
  • Organizes and maintains files, both electronic and paper, per the record retention schedule.
  • Takes notes of meetings, prepares minutes and writes reports.
  • Handles constituent information requests and tracks them in the CMS database.
  • Schedules member and makes travel arrangements.
  • Processes commendations in coordination with LSC and mails them from the Office.
  • Assists with legislative research and tracks legislation of interest to the member.
  • Serves as a contact between the member and caucus policy staff.
  • Assists with constituent outreach to the member’s district, including travel.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
