Job summary

State of Ohio is seeking an Office Support Specialist to assist a representative with scheduling, mail handling, and file maintenance. The role involves greeting constituents, coordinating travel, drafting letters and speeches, and supporting legislative research at the Riffe Center and Statehouse.

The position requires professional interaction, knowledge of legislative processes, and strong Microsoft Office skills. Travel may be required; travel coordination duties are part of daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • Interacts professionally with members, peers, constituents and the public.
  • Understands legislative process and terminology.
  • Tactfully handles sensitive issues and maintains confidentiality.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily operations of the district office at the Riffe Center.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls to the district office at the Riffe Center.
  • Staffs member for committee, session, and legislative meetings at the Riffe Center and the Statehouse.
  • Prepares documents and copies materials for member and constituents for legislative meetings.
  • Organizes and plans meetings and attends with member when needed.
  • Greets visitors in the Riffe lobby on behalf of the member and escorts them to the member's office.
  • Opens, sorts and responds to district mail delivered to the House and coordinates outgoing mailings.
