Job summary

General Motors is offering a Lean Material Strategies Intern role in Warren, MI. You will analyze warehouse and material-flow processes, improve WMS data accuracy, and develop standard work, dashboards, and visual tools.

You’ll partner across plants, supply chain, and IT to drive data-driven improvements. The role requires pursuing a related bachelor's degree, graduation between 2027 and 2030, and readiness to work 40 hours per week in the summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2030.
• Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months.
• Must be willing to work in a plant environment and travel to GM manufacturing facilities as needed.
• Experience with warehouse management systems, ERP systems, or material-flow processes preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Visio, or other data-visualization tools.

Responsibilities

• Map current-state warehouse and material flows, identify waste and process variation, and recommend improvements.
• Analyze WMS/ERP data to identify inventory accuracy, transaction, slotting, replenishment, and material-availability opportunities.
• Develop standard work, process maps, visual management, and dashboards to support sustainable improvements.
• Collaborate with plant operations, logistics, engineering, supply chain, and IT stakeholders to test and implement solutions.
• Pilot a WMS inventory-accuracy and material-flow visibility improvement at a selected operation, establish baseline, identify root causes, and measure results.
