Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Lean Engineer I or II to join our Solar Team, applying kaizen-based continuous improvement, 5S, and Flow Construction to improve safety and efficiency on project sites.

This role involves leading kaizen workshops, using lean tools, coordinating with project leaders and craft workers, and promoting one-piece flow. Travel 75–100% with site rotations; relocation possible based on project needs.

• MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related degree OR Equivalent combination of education and technical/field experience demonstrated over multiple years of work experience.
• Minimum one year of construction or manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead kaizen workshops with project teams.
• Help project teams embrace lean tools (GEMBA walks, DMS, idea capture).
• Partner with project leadership and craft workforce to establish trust for lean approaches.
• Build relationships across backgrounds and levels.
• Reinforce continuous improvement principles post-workshops.
• Support forepersons in observing work and addressing abnormalities.
• Encourage crews to brainstorm and implement ongoing improvements.
• Support 5S practices with project teams and trade partners.
• Participate in flow schedule development for relevant work phases.
• Apply daily planning and work management with superintendents.
• Promote one-piece flow and reduce batching.
