Job summary

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a dedicated Safety Engineer to develop and govern functional safety activities for vehicle programs. You will derive HARA, FSRs, and TSRs, ensuring ASIL alignment across hardware and software, and coordinate cross-functional teams from concept to validation.

You will supervise engineers and guide integration testing at the vehicle level, maintaining a comprehensive Safety Plan. Domestic travel (~20%) is required as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field with 2 years automotive experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience.
• Experience with ISO 26262, OEM or Tier 1, cross-functional teams, and vehicle system functionality.

Responsibilities

• Develop Hazard and Risk Assessments (HARA) and Functional Safety Requirements (FSR) for a vehicle platform.
• Derive Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) and ASIL metrics for hardware and software.
• Coordinate safety content across high-level to low-level architecture and validation.
• Oversee integration validation and testing between components and vehicle system.
• Lead vehicle-level safety validation efforts and maintain a unified Safety Plan.
• Supervise engineers and manage ~20% domestic travel.
