Job summary

Rivian Automotive is seeking a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer within the Electric Power Conversion group to lead functional safety development for power electronics components, reporting to the Sr. Manager of Functional Safety.

You will drive safety analyses (FTA, FMEA, FMEDA), define safety concepts and architecture, and collaborate across hardware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to meet ISO 26262 standards.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• Experience in electrical safety hardware design and automotive safety standards.
• Strong knowledge of failure mode analysis and safety methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop Hardware FTA, FMEA & FMEDA's, DFA for electrical hardware design.
• Serve as Safety expert in safety-critical cross-functional design decisions.
• Support reliability in deriving mission profiles and FIT rates for hardware components.
• Develop hardware safety concepts, architecture and requirements for subsystems and components.
• Support software safety analysis and architecture development.
• Collaborate with Reliability in defining mission profiles based on vehicle use cases.
• Create traceability between hardware safety, safety requirements and test cases.
• Develop Design Verification Plans for hardware safety and safety requirements.
• Support hardware and software test teams in troubleshooting.
• Assist safety team in hazard analysis and risk assessment.
• Document safety requirements and verification events for subsystems.
• Author and review high-level safety documentation.
• Drive functional safety processes across the organization.
