Job summary

STV is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Transportation department in Chicago, IL. You will lead highway, bridge, rail, and transit projects, applying your Illinois S.E. license and bridge design expertise to steel and concrete structures.

In this role you will mentor engineers, coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, and work with state and local agencies from planning through final design and construction, delivering safe, constructible solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
• Active Illinois Structural Engineer (S.E.) license.
• 10+ years of progressive structural or bridge engineering experience.
• Experience designing steel and concrete transportation structures.
• Familiarity with IDOT and Illinois Tollway standards and design deliverables.
• Ability to prepare and review structural calculations, plans, specs and estimates.
• Leadership in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and mentoring staff.
• Proficiency with MicroStation and bridge design software.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering tasks for highway, transit and rail infrastructure from planning through construction.
• Develop designs for steel and concrete bridge superstructures and foundations.
• Review calculations, memoranda, and cost estimates; ensure quality and compliance.
• Coordinate with roadway, rail, geotechnical, drainage, and CADD teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and manage scope, schedule, and fees.
• Support proposals, client interviews, and business development activities.
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO LRFD and applicable standards.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering

Professional Engineering license (P.E.) or S.E. license

10+ years of structural/bridge engineering experience

Experience with AASHTO LRFD, IDOT, Illinois Tollway standards

Strong communication and mentoring skills
