Job summary

Custom Goods LLC is seeking a Transportation Specialist Lead to guide the daily activities of the transportation/dispatch team and coordinate freight movements to ensure on-time pickup and delivery. The role requires mentoring team members, negotiating carrier capacity, and ensuring DOT compliance in a fast-paced 3PL environment.

Responsibilities include improving routing efficiency, collaborating with operations and customer service, and tracking key performance metrics.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's in logistics/supply chain/transportation preferred
• 3–5 years of experience in transportation, dispatch, freight brokerage, or logistics coordination
• 1+ years of informal leadership, training, or mentoring experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily activities of the transportation/dispatch team
• Plan, schedule, and oversee daily freight movements for on-time pickup/delivery
• Train, mentor, and support Transportation Specialists and Coordinators
• Communicate with carriers, drivers, and internal teams to track shipment status
• Source, negotiate rates, and secure capacity with carriers to meet service levels and costs
• Monitor load boards, tender freight, and ensure carrier compliance
• Maintain records in the TMS and ensure data accuracy
• Ensure DOT regulations and safety policies are followed
• Troubleshoot service failures and customer complaints
• Collaborate with warehouse, brokerage, and customer service teams
• Track KPIs and report results to the team
• Provide after-hours support as needed
• Identify and lead process improvements to reduce costs
• Support network optimization and new customer implementations
