Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks a Principal Robotics Systems Engineer to lead all aspects of systems engineering for a complex surgical robotic platform from concept to commercialization. You will own requirements, architecture, risk management, and cross-functional integration with hardware, software, and clinical teams.

The role collaborates with electrical, software, controls, mechanical, QA, and V&V groups to ensure safety, reliability, and usability, while aligning with FDA ISO

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in multidisciplinary systems engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in surgical robotic systems or complex multidisciplinary medical devices.
• Knowledge of embedded systems, firmware/software testing, and electromechanical systems.
• Experience with requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, Polarion).
• Familiarity with test automation tools and scripting languages (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Certification in CQE, CQA, or Six Sigma is a plus.
• Proficient in sample size calculation and statistical methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of systems engineering for a complex surgical robotic platform, including definition of system architecture and development of clear, testable requirements.
• Own the end-to-end requirements lifecycle with traceability from user needs to validation.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration across hardware, software, controls, mechanical, clinical, and V&V teams.
• Lead system architecture development and robust integration of electromechanical components and software.
• Lead system-level risk management in accordance with ISO 14971 and related standards.
• Own software-related system requirements and use cases.
• Ensure execution of design control activities in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Lead system-level design and architecture reviews for regulatory submissions and product releases.
