Job summary

University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. is seeking a Surgical Scheduling Coordinator to direct and coordinate the scheduling of all clinic physicians’ surgeries.

The role involves liaison duties, policy adherence, and ensuring continuity of care for surgical patients. Under supervision, you will verify insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and communicate plans with patients, surgeons, and hospital staff while providing excellent service.

Qualifications

• 4 years working in an ambulatory healthcare environment.
• 4 years customer service experience.
• 4 years working with third-party payors (insurance carriers).

Responsibilities

• Participates as an active care team member in coordinating patient care.
• Provides oversight of daily surgical scheduling, including hiring, staffing, training, coaching and feedback.
• Supports the objectives of the surgical scheduling team by functioning as a surgical coordinator.
• Works with the Director/Office Manager to schedule surgeries and manage workflow for optimal coverage.
• Attends meetings about surgical scheduling, hospital, outpatient and clinic operations.
• Instructs patients on administrative, financial, and preoperative processes.
• Verifies insurance coverage, obtains authorization, communicates surgical plan to patient, vendors, surgeon, and hospital.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, families, and treatment team members.
• Utilizes EPIC scheduling application and external scheduling processes.
• Identifies equipment or personnel needs for surgical cases.
• Reviews authorization vs procedures performed and after-hours surgeries as needed.
• Prepares reports and educates staff on new processes and policies.
