Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to lead testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection systems in substations. The role emphasizes safety leadership, field execution, and technical mentorship across MV/HV projects.

You will test and calibrate relay systems, support outage planning, and coordinate with clients and project managers while traveling regionally to customer sites. NETA certification and a technical background are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Experience testing medium-to-high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Ability to interpret protection diagrams and AC/DC schematics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
• OSHA training or safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety briefings and ensure a safety-first field culture.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, and commissioning on MV/HV systems.
• Test protection schemes including distance, differential, overcurrent, and bus protection.
• Verify control circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders.
• Support outage planning and restoration activities.
• Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers and utility customers.
• Create and maintain accurate test reports and field documentation.
• Participate in job walks and customer technical discussions.
• Serve as a technical resource and trainer for relay technicians.
