Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to steer high-voltage substation design from concept through construction, mentoring junior engineers and ensuring code-compliant, reliable solutions for critical infrastructure.

Hybrid/remote work options are available, with preference for candidates near Qualus offices. The role requires strong collaboration with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver quality projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 10+ years of experience in substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations per codes and client standards.
• Create general arrangement, equipment layouts, grounding, routing, BOMs, and power systems details.
• Develop ground grids and lightning protection plans.
• Perform load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
• Prepare equipment specifications, scope, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and review engineering packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and review calculations and drawings.
