Job summary

Commonwealth Associates, Inc. seeks a Senior Physical Substation Electrical Engineer to lead a team of engineers and coordinate with clients on substations across multiple projects.

The role focuses on delivering high-quality substation designs, from development through documentation and bid support. The position requires a PE license, ABET-accredited degree, and 5–10 years of related experience, including 2+ years of leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 5–10 years of physical electrical design experience in substations.
• 2+ years leading clients and other engineers.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of major substation equipment and its functions.
• Ability to select and specify substation equipment.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards.
• Knowledge of electrical calculations required for substation design.
• Development of physical electrical design submittals.
• Preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations.
• Coordination with clients and internal project management teams.
• Mentorship of less experienced engineers and designers.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Development of engineering cost estimates for proposals.
