Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to lead the design and execution of EHV substations (230 kV–765 kV) in a hybrid office setting. You will mentor junior engineers, ensure QA, and coordinate with clients and vendors to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure.

The role requires a PE license and 12 years of related experience, with travel as needed. Strong emphasis on standards, protection & control, and interdisciplinary collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering; PE license preferred for senior role.
• 12 years of related experience; domestic/international travel possible.
• Experience with EHV substations (230 kV–765 kV) design, layout, grounding, and protection and control.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and execution of EHV substation projects (230 kV to 765 kV).
• Mentor engineering teams and ensure adherence to standards and QA.
• Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors to define scope and resolve issues.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources across multiple projects.
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables and technical specifications.
• Act as Engineer of Record (EOR) for assigned projects and ensure regulatory compliance.
