Job summary

Service Electric Company in the southeastern United States is seeking a Senior Substation Apparatus Technician to oversee and perform advanced testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation apparatus with minimal supervision. This role aims to ensure safe, reliable operation of high‑voltage equipment across projects.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; technical school or associate degree in electrical technology preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, power systems, and substation apparatus applications.
• 6–8 years of experience in substation apparatus testing, electrical maintenance, or related field.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one‑line drawings, and manuals.
• Advanced knowledge of substation testing standards (NETA, IEEE, ANSI).
• Ability to lead crews, mentor technicians, and maintain a strong safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Perform and lead advanced testing, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of substation apparatus.
• Lead commissioning activities and ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
• Analyze complex test results, diagnose equipment issues, and develop corrective action.
• Prepare, review, and approve detailed field reports and documentation.
• Coordinate field activities with engineers, project managers, clients, and utility personnel.
• Travel to job sites as required, including overnight travel.
• Promote safety culture and ensure use of PPE and safe work practices.
