Job summary

E4A Solutions is seeking a Senior Field Technician to perform commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and energization for utility substation projects across the Northeastern United States.

The role supports safe and reliable transmission and distribution systems by verifying protection schemes, circuit breakers, and 34.5 kV breakers, and by conducting IR tests and in-service validations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in substation testing, commissioning, or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of protection and control systems, protective relays, and high-voltage equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and commissioning procedures.
• Demonstrated experience on transmission and distribution utility projects.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to lead field activities and coordinate across engineering and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform point-to-point verification of control and protective relaying circuits to confirm design accuracy before energization.
• Conduct inspections and checkout of transmission and distribution substation equipment, including 230 kV circuit breakers
• Execute current injection and functional testing on 34.5 kV breakers to validate proper operation
• Perform insulation resistance (IR) testing on control circuits, cables, and electrical equipment to identify potential failure points
• Conduct in-service load checks and operational assessments to confirm system readiness
• Prepare and implement equipment isolation and restoration procedures to support safe maintenance and testing activities
• Verify, troubleshoot, and energize breaker control circuits, resolving issues that could delay project turnover
• Complete DRMCC (Digital Relay Monitoring and Control Cabinet) checkout activities, review commissioning procedures, and document test results to support project turnover requirements
