Job summary

Actalent is seeking a hands-on Lead Structural Engineer to establish and lead in-house structural capabilities in a design-focused firm. You will deliver constructible designs across commercial, office, industrial, and residential projects while coordinating with architects, MEP staff, owners, and authorities having jurisdiction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Approximately 5+ years of structural engineering experience on building projects.
• Strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS) and Michigan code.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design from concept through construction documents and administration.
• Develop calculations, drawings, details, specs for new, renovations, and adaptive reuse.
• Design and evaluate steel, wood, masonry, and concrete systems.
• Coordinate with architects and MEP staff on layouts and loads.
• Perform field investigations and document conditions.
• Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings; respond promptly.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and code officials for permits.
• Develop internal standards, QA/QC, checklists and workflows.
• Assist in proposals by defining scope, effort, risks and schedule impacts.
• Serve as internal structural SME while hands-on with calculations and drawings.
• Support a culture of communication and practical engineering in a small firm.
