Our client is a growing design-build organization seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its team. In this role, you'll play an integral part in delivering construction‑ready designs for a diverse range of industrial projects, with a strong focus on structural steel and concrete applications.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Structural Engineer applies a broad knowledge of structural design concepts, Building Code requirements, and analysis methods to provide complete design of various structure types. Takes ownership of the design effort and leads design teams in timely and accurate preparation of project Construction Documents (drawings, specifications, calculation etc.). Proactively interfaces with our Construction personnel and VDC group to coordinate constructible 3D models that facilitate material detailing, fabrication, and installation. The incumbent enjoys the challenge of design development with an attention to detail and an eye toward efficient constructability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Fully familiar with Project scopes of work, specifications, and schedule requirements and capable of leading the design effort to achieve the technical compliance.
- Review and approve Construction Documents ensuring technical correctness, professional presentation and that fabrication and installation requirements are satisfied.
- Prepare clear and accurate detailed calculations.
- Identify changes in scope and promptly raise change notification when necessary.
- Continually increases knowledge of applicable Code requirements and pending/approved changes
- Clearly identify and report conflicts, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities in a timely manner.
- Provide thorough review of design deliverables and clearly convey to Design personnel their comments for revision.
- Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and keep Engineering Manager and Project Manager apprised of communication.
- Prepare estimates for bid proposals, including technical query reviews, execution statements and manhour estimates, identifying software requirements and any other project‑specific requirements.
- Raise information requests (RFIs) to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and to maintain preferred WBC procedures, specifications, standards, practices, and operational requirements.
- Prepare, review, and approve structural engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specifications.
- Attend project kickoff and review meetings, vendor meetings, and Client/Owner meetings, as required.
- Provide technical direction and review of Designers producing deliverables related to structural engineering.
- Review and approve vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary.
- Keep Lead Structural Design Engineer and/or Engineering Manager apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary and manpower related.
- Assist in providing inputs for actual, planning and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity.
- Present issues and problems to Clients in a timely manner and assist Project Manager in negotiating resolution in accordance with contract requirements.
- Maintain close coordination with external engineering partners, as required, to maintain clash‑free, constructable designs.
Education and/or Experience
- 10+ years’ of structural design experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (required)
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis (preferred)
