Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Structural Engineer to join a family-owned design-build commercial construction firm serving southeastern Pennsylvania. Develop structural plans for commercial new-construction and renovations, collaborating with in-house drafters to deliver safe, constructible solutions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
At least 5 years of structural engineering experience, preferably with commercial building projects.
Strong knowledge of applicable structural and building codes and standards.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD for the development and review of structural drawings.
Ability to perform job-site visits and field observations at active construction sites.
Experience with building design in a design-build or commercial construction environment.
Ability to coordinate structural engineering work with other disciplines and project stakeholders.
Solid understanding of construction documents, structural site assessment, and project coordination.

Responsibilities

Visit job sites to assess and document existing structural and site conditions for both new construction and renovation projects.
Determine and specify structural components required for project execution, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Coordinate structural designs with other engineering disciplines to achieve integrated, constructible, and cost-effective solutions.
Review and edit project specifications and construction documents to maintain accuracy, clarity, and alignment with design intent.
Conduct field observations of completed work and work in progress, as assigned, to verify quality and adherence to design requirements.
Document whether observed construction conforms to project documents and identify any deviations or issues requiring resolution.
Mentor graduate engineers in engineering fundamentals, design best practices, and professional standards, helping them grow in their careers.
Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high levels of design quality, organization, and responsiveness to project stakeholders.
Participate across the project lifecycle, including site assessment, structural design, multidisciplinary coordination, specifications, and field observation.
Collaborate with construction and project management teams in a design-build environment to support shared project outcomes and successful delivery.
