Lead Recreation Assistant (Pool/Waterfront Lifeguard)

Summary

These positions are assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); WPNSTA Yorktown/Cheatham Annex. Incumbent provides lifeguard duties, safeguards lives, and assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.

Duties

Pool and/or Waterfront Lifeguard duties (60%) include:

• Supervising swimmers and patrons, monitoring water activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules, performing water rescues.
• Observing and documenting environmental conditions, removing hazards.
• Performing rescues, CPR, first aid, and calling for medical assistance as needed.
• Testing and documenting pool chemical levels, notifying supervisors of imbalances, adjusting chemicals if directed.
• Marking swim and surf areas with flags (Waterfront only), operating rescue vehicles (Waterfront only).

General responsibilities (includes but not limited to):

• Administering aquatic assessments and certifications per DoD, DON, CNIC policies.
• Providing equipment orientations, checking IDs, collecting fees.
• Serving as liaison during emergencies, performing cleaning and maintenance, inspecting facilities, maintaining emergency equipment.
• Enforcing policies, preparing incident reports, working with hazardous materials.

Lead duties (40%) include:

• Leading and directing lifeguard teams, interviewing and recommending hires.
• Scheduling, training, monitoring certifications, managing work performance.
• Handling patron concerns, ensuring program schedules, leading emergency responses, performing opening/closing procedures.

Requirements

• Must pass background checks, have current CPR, Lifeguard, and First Aid certifications.
• Salary paid via Direct Deposit/EFT.
