Job description

OVERVIEW:

Currently certified lifeguards will supervise the pool during Free Time, morning polar bear swims, and communicate and enforce guidelines to ensure a safe, enjoyable pool environment. The Lifeguard's responsibilities include supervising patrons during camp-wide events, participating in camp devotionals, maintaining personal fitness, teaching basic water and swim skills, assisting with programs, and keeping the pool and surrounding area clean.

COMPENSATION:
  • Weekly salary starts at $360

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Observing campers during waterfront activities to ensure safety and adherence to rules, ready to perform rescues as needed.
  • Assisting Waterfront Director/Assistant Camp Director in accident prevention and instructing campers on waterfront safety procedures.
  • Maintaining pool and waterfront equipment, including water rescue gear.
  • Keeping waterfront areas clean and sanitary, including proper equipment storage, cleaning pool shower areas, sweeping decks, and regular pool cleaning.
  • Ensuring supplies like toilet paper are stocked in shower rooms daily.
  • Participating in camp evening activities as directed.
  • Assisting with pre-registration and registration processes.
  • Reporting property maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Crew.
  • Engaging with campers and staff to promote a positive camping experience aligned with the goals of The Salvation Army's camping program.
  • Participating in the spiritual development of campers and staff.
  • Exhibiting Christ-like conduct and serving as a positive example.
  • Reporting any suspected child abuse issues immediately and taking appropriate action.
  • Performing any additional duties assigned by your supervisor.

Note: All staff may be called upon at any time to assist with camp operations. Attendance at evening programs is expected; absences require prior approval from the Assistant Camp Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Preferably at least 18 years old.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Basic First-Aid and CPR certification or equivalent.
  • Good health and ability to perform all job functions.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Good moral character.
  • Personal and growing relationship with the Lord.
  • Previous camping experience is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs.
