Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Lead Production Technician to lead a fast-paced team building high-temperature superconducting magnets and assemblies for fusion devices. You will work with technicians, engineers, and QA to meet schedules, quality, and cost targets.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong mechanical and electrical skills, and a commitment to safety in a demanding environment. Second shift availability and onsite work are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years in a formal leadership role in manufacturing.
• Minimum of 6 years in mechanical and electrical assembly, vacuum, cryogenic systems, or related tech.
• Commitment to safety and quality with clear team communication.
• Ability to lead, direct, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication to set daily and weekly goals.

Responsibilities

• Hire, lead, and train technicians and welders for electromechanical parts with focus on quality, cost, and delivery.
• Work with manufacturing engineers to develop and qualify new techniques and processes.
• Perform production hardware builds per procedures and test instructions per schedule.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing discrepancies and drive continuous improvement.
• Use torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools.
• Ensure technicians follow safety and housekeeping standards.
• Provide feedback during biannual performance reviews.
• Travel or work nights/weekends/on-call as required.
• Support projects from start to finish, including assembly and testing.
