Job summary

City of San Antonio seeks a supervisory Plan Review Manager to oversee the plan review team for commercial and residential projects. You will ensure compliance with building codes, zoning, and city ordinances, and manage staff training and quality control.

Responsibilities include coordinating with different sections, providing technical guidance on code modifications, and resolving complex issues with developers and design professionals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) years of experience reading and interpreting architectural and engineering plans, blueprints and drawings.
• Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License
• Ability to obtain ICC Certification within 6 months and three total within 12 months: Building Plans Examiner, Electrical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Plans Examiner, or Fire Plans Examiner.
• Within 18 months: pass ICC Commercial Energy Plans Examiner or Zoning Inspector.

Responsibilities

• Supervises overall operation of plan review activity and coordinates work activity of commercial and/or residential plan review staff with other sections.
• Develops training plans and conducts training programs for Plans Examiners and Field Inspectors.
• Oversees consultation services regarding commercial and/or residential plan review to facilitate projects.
• Develops goals and objectives for the section.
• Provides technical expertise and recommendations for code modification request processes.
• Reviews plans and specifications for building permits for compliance with codes, zoning, and ordinances.
• Reviews time-sensitive and complex plans for compliance.
• Performs daily inspections of staff output and conducts quality control audits.
• Meets with the public, architects, engineers, and developers to resolve problems and facilitate development.
• Maintains records and reviews updated codes for adoption and implementation.
