Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; two years of college credit or an associate degree.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
• Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist teacher with instructional activities.
• Escort students from room to room.
• Toileting students is sometimes required.
• Involves work with both special education and regular students.
• Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
• Supervise students during recess and lunch.
• Assist students with classroom assignments.
• Copy materials for instructional purposes.
• Assist teacher in filing material and preparing necessary paperwork.
• Alert teachers to problems observed.
• May require assisting with toileting of students.
• PMT required.
