Job summary

The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) at the Houston VA Medical Center seeks an experienced Supervisory Health Tech (Opticians) to coordinate optical operations and act as a key liaison between VCS, eye clinic providers and prosthetics teams.

The role requires specialized experience, strong computer skills (Microsoft Office; DOS-based systems), accurate prescription review, lens measurement, and quality control to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience Requirement: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience to perform duties.
• Computer Skills & Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and DOS-based systems used by Optical Contractor and VA.
• Prescription Review & Accuracy: Review prescriptions, identify discrepancies, and ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Lens Measurement & Verification: Measure and verify lens placement to meet tolerances and quality standards.
• Lens Selection & Patient Needs: Select lens types and positioning to meet patient vision requirements and comfort.
• Quality Control & Problem Identification: Identify and resolve optical issues including alignment and frame selection.
• Identification Requirement: A current, valid REAL ID is required to work with the Veterans Canteen Service.
