Job summary

Capital One seeks a Manager of Ontology and Data Modeling in Richmond, VA to develop enterprise ontologies and data models aligned with the company’s data strategy. The role partners with Technology, Machine Learning, and business teams to define ontology roadmaps and enable semantic capabilities across products and services.

You will lead a team to design, implement and govern ontologies, map data, and advocate standardization while mentoring associates and shaping a strong data-centric culture

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics or computational linguistics.
• At least 4 years’ experience in a metadata field (ontology, taxonomy, semantics or computational linguistics).
• At least 4 years’ experience with W3C standards including linked and canonical data and ontologies (JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, and SKOS).
• At least 4 years’ experience or training with ontology and linked data tools (Protégé, TopQuadrant, PoolParty, Stardog, AnzoGraph, Neptune, or Data.World).
• At least 4 years’ experience or training with SQL or SPARQL.

Responsibilities

• Define clear and actionable problem statements for ontologies and data models.
• Own and prioritize the near-term Ontology and Data Modeling roadmap to deliver business outcomes.
• Collaborate with Technology, ML, and other teams to support semantic technology integration.
• Communicate and advocate the value of ontologies, semantics and standardization across Capital One.
• Develop and communicate a 6-month vision to senior stakeholders and mentor associates.
• Contribute to data integration and mapping efforts to harmonize data with enterprise ontologies.
