Job summary
Capital One is seeking a Manager of Ontology & Data Modeling to lead the development and governance of enterprise ontologies aligned to the company’s data strategy. You will partner with Technology, ML, and business teams to drive semantic technology adoption and standardized knowledge organization across products and services.
The role emphasizes strategic roadmapping, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring senior teams, with responsibility for an evolving semantic program and adherence to W3C
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics or computational linguistics.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a metadata field (ontology, taxonomy, semantics or computational linguistics).
- At least 4 years’ experience with W3C standards in linked data and ontologies (JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS).
- At least 4 years’ experience with ontology and linked data tools (Protégé, TopQuadrant, PoolParty, Stardog, AnzoGraph, Neptune, or Data.World).
- At least 4 years’ experience with SQL or SPARQL.
Responsibilities
- Define clear problem statements and guide teams in ontology/data modeling.
- Align roadmaps with stakeholders and acceptance criteria.
- Own and prioritize the ontology roadmap to deliver business outcomes.
- Develop and communicate a 6‑month vision to senior stakeholders.
- Govern ontologies and data models across enterprise initiatives.
- Mentor junior ontology and data modeling associates.
