Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a lead structural engineer in Richmond, VA for nuclear facilities projects. The role involves guiding a team of structural engineers, interfacing with clients, and mentoring junior staff on designs for new reactors and upgrades.

A hybrid schedule is offered with three days in the Richmond office and two days remote. Ideal candidates have 12+ years in industrial or nuclear structures, PE/SE licensure, and proficiency in STAAD/SAP2000/SAFE/STRUDL/ANSYS and ASCE 7, AISC,

Qualifications

• BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 12+ years of experience in design and analysis of industrial/heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
• PE or SE license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a structural engineering team on projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades/modifications to nuclear power plants.
• Direct interface with clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers; review and provide guidance on design calculations and drawings.
• Oversee structural analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, and foundations; travel to client/vendor offices or plant sites for design reviews and field verification.
• Contribute to project execution with coordination of drawings, specifications, and QA reviews.
