Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Design Engineer to guide a team of structural engineers focused on nuclear facilities and upgrades. You will interface with multidisciplinary teams and clients to drive design and analysis across steel, concrete, and foundational elements, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and hands-on technical excellence, with hybrid work and potential travel to project sites as required.

Qualifications

• BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Twenty or more years of experience in design and analysis of industrial/heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• PE or SE license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a structural engineering team on engineering projects for nuclear facilities.
• Interface with engineers from other disciplines and with clients.
• Guide design calculations, develop specifications, and coordinate drawing development with designers.
• Oversee structural analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, and foundations.
• Travel to client and vendor offices or plant sites for reviews and field verification as needed.
