Job summary

Thomas Thor is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead NSSS component design within the nuclear steam supply system. You will guide system-level and detailed component work, mentor engineers, and ensure designs meet rigorous QA, regulatory, and company standards.

The role emphasizes independent judgment, technical direction, and collaboration with design partners to drive innovative NSSS solutions for complex projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
• 10+ years of full-time nuclear experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication; project leadership.
• Understanding of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex mechanical engineering assignments on the NSSS, including system and detailed component design.
• Serve as technical lead for the design of NSSS components and systems (e.g. valves, CRDMs, pressurizer heaters).
• Act as subcontract technical lead / program manager for vendor design of NSSS components, engaging closely with design partners and internal stakeholders to ensure designs meet company and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare, check and review engineering specifications, drawings, calculations, reports and other design documentation.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to staff across all areas of NSSS design.
