Job summary

Samsara, a leading AI company for physical operations, is hiring a Lead Machine Learning Infrastructure Engineer to own the end-to-end ML platform across training, inference, and edge deployment for Safety AI. This role is the technical anchor and can be at Staff, Senior Staff, or Principal level with remote work available in the United States.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in machine learning engineering with tech lead ownership of at least two major ML platform domains serving multiple product teams at scale.
• Proven track record of shipping ML-powered features end-to-end with measurable impact on product or business metrics.
• Hands-on Ray and Kubernetes expertise in production environments; Spark experience strongly preferred.
• Deep understanding of ML fundamentals beyond pipelines: evaluation methodology, dataset design, ablation, drift.
• Demonstrated cross-org technical leadership around platform decisions and influencing roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy and own end-to-end delivery of Samsara's ML platform (training, experimentation, batch/online inference, edge).
• Drive design, launch, and iteration of Safety AI features with measurable outcomes including safety metrics and reliability.
• Design and operate scalable online and batch inference systems (Ray, Spark) with observability and SLOs; partner with firmware and edge teams to deploy models to devices.
• Own reliability, observability, and security for ML systems across cloud and edge; manage on-call practices and incident response.
• Be the technical authority for ML infrastructure architecture across Safety AI; mentor engineers and contribute to open source communities.
