Job summary

AV is seeking a Manager, Mission Systems Software in San Diego to lead a large, multi-site team building onboard mission systems software for uncrewed aircraft. You will drive strategy with the Software Chief Engineer, manage budgets and program commitments, and guide the development of vision-based navigation, autonomy, and flight software.

The role requires 12+ years in software with embedded/ robotics, 4+ years in leadership, and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related is required or equivalent.
• 12+ years in software engineering with embedded/ robotics/ mission systems background.
• At least 4+ years in a management or technical lead role leading 15+ engineers.
• Experience delivering flight-critical or mission-critical software through full lifecycle.
• Experience with modern development and CI/CD tooling and Linux environments.
• Willingness to travel within the Continental U.S.

Responsibilities

• Manages a large, multi-site group of software engineers including budget planning and staffing.
• Drives hiring, onboarding, and development of engineers into senior contributors.
• Shapes the mission systems software roadmap with the Software Chief Engineer.
• Plans, coordinates, and directs software projects across multiple programs.
• Works in Agile environments coordinating scope, scheduling and releases.
• Champions software quality through reviews, testing, and release practices.
• Supports reuse of common software across programs to reduce sustainment.
• Coordinates with systems engineering, GNC, hardware, and test teams.
• Interacts with senior management and ensures adherence to budgets and schedules.
• Performs other duties as assigned
