Job summary

Southland Industries, a leading MEP firm, seeks a senior design engineer in Texas to develop HVAC, plumbing and fire protection layouts and oversee complex calculations, drawings, and specifications. You will participate in project team meetings and lead redline efforts for estimating.

The role requires a PE license, 8+ years of experience, and strong communication skills to engage with clients, contractors, and internal teams. This is a senior, on-site position with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience.
• Excellent knowledge of applicable systems design such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc.
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with all levels of employees, clients and general contractors.
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
• Microsoft Office products, including Excel.

Responsibilities

• Serve as design professional at project team design meetings.
• Prepares complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Performs more complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations.
• Performs site inspections to determine compliance with construction documents and resolves design issues during construction phase.
• Supervises less-experienced engineers in performing HVAC, fire protection or other system design and documents production of small and large projects.
