Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking a Design Engineer II to perform complex calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, or related systems. The role includes modeling, sizing, and preparation of design layouts, with guidance to junior engineers and on-site field surveys.

You will contribute to calculations, write technical narratives, ensure code compliance, and support multi-discipline design efforts. This is a hands-on engineering role that emphasizes accuracy and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License preferred.
• Minimum 3 years' experience.
• Basic knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) and general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read construction documents.
• Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office products (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Performs complex calculations for projects (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction/hydraulic calculations).
• Produces advanced modeling, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection or other systems.
• Prepares preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Guides less experienced engineers.
• Conducts on-site field surveys to collect or deliver design data.
• Assists in writing technical narratives and RFIs.
• Ensures code compliance.
