Job summary

Mercy Health in Kentucky is seeking a Lead Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) at West Hospital to oversee routine and complex lab testing, and provide quality results to physicians.

This leadership role supports the Technical Specialist, drives proficiency testing, updates procedures, and ensures compliance, with a focus on accuracy and patient safety. A BS in a CLIA-approved program and MLS certification eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field from a CLIA-approved program (required).
• MLS certification or eligible; must achieve certification within 12 months from hire date if registry eligible.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical lab experience; 5 years preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs the duties of a Medical Lab Scientist.
• Assists Technical Specialist with implementation of procedures and policies.
• Cooperates in coordinating proficiency testing to ensure testing is registered, analyzed, and reviewed to meet deadlines.
• Recommends system changes to increase efficiency and accuracy of workflow and ensure daily operational efficiencies.
• Completes department schedules and updates time/schedule as necessary.
• Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
• Other duties as assigned.
