Job summary

MKS Instruments seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the vibration control group, delivering precision isolation platforms, optical tables, and custom solutions from concept to release. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in precision mechanical systems and vibration mitigation.
• Expertise in structural dynamics and vibration fundamentals applied to real products.
• 3D CAD proficiency with GD&T and production drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of vibration control products and custom solutions balancing performance, cost, schedule, and manufacturability.
• Own requirements definition and technical trade studies (stiffness, damping, modal behavior, load capacity, thermal effects).
• Perform analysis and simulation (hand calcs, FEA, vibration/modal analysis) and correlate models to test data.
• Define verification/validation strategies with prototypes, tests, and design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive technical workstreams across teams.
• Drive risk management and root-cause investigations with corrective actions.
• Maintain engineering documentation (CAD, drawings, BOMs, test plans) per PLM/ERP processes.
• Collaborate with product management and sales on roadmap execution.
