Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer to develop and integrate automated mechanical systems for vacuum product lines. You will collaborate with manufacturing and automation teams across global sites to improve efficiency, cost, quality, and capacity.

The role requires hands-on experience with sensors, motion systems, and control architectures, plus CAD proficiency and strong communication skills. This hybrid position is based in the Methuen/Andover/Wilmington MA area.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Industrial Engineering.
• 2+ years designing and implementing automated manufacturing systems.
• Experience integrating sensors, motors, actuators, VFDs, robots and servo systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and implement safety circuits.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and integrate automated mechanical systems and tooling.
• Develop machine concepts and layouts using SolidWorks in collaboration with design and controls teams.
• Select and integrate motors, actuators, gearboxes, sensors, pneumatics, and safety devices.
• Support design reviews, prototyping, startup, and commissioning of automation.
• Lead integration, startup, verification, and troubleshooting of automated machines.
