Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design complex cooling and HVAC systems for mission-critical data centers. You will lead projects and a team of mechanical engineers, coordinate with internal teams and vendors, and travel to client sites as needed.

The role emphasizes design leadership, mentorship, and effective communication with clients and stakeholders to deliver high-quality documents and successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proven history of Mechanical or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis
• 7+ years of experience in designing mechanical systems for high-performing commercial/industrial or mission critical/data center buildings
• Experience mentoring and training others in field
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interact well with others and contribute to high quality technical deliverables
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and codes
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and policies
• Must be flexible to schedules and able to travel

Responsibilities

• Produce high quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals
• Design large air distribution and hydronic systems
• Design building automation controls systems and specifications
• Work within multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specifications
• Attend client meetings and lead discussions
• Communicate complex mechanical engineering concepts to clients and stakeholders
• Direct complex mechanical engineering requirements and integrate into facility designs
• Collaborate with internal project discipline teams and external vendors/manufacturers
• Act as the lead mechanical engineer on projects and direct the project team
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers
• Perform project management activities including writing proposals, establishing budgets, and managing client interactions
• Coordinate activities concerned with technical development, scheduling, and resolving design issues
• Survey and evaluate existing conditions
• Perform construction administration
