Job summary

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP company, seeks a Mechanical Department Lead in Herndon, VA to design complex cooling and HVAC systems and lead a team of mechanical engineers on mission critical data center projects. You will mentor engineers, manage client interactions, and coordinate with vendors.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years of experience, a PE license, strong communication skills, and a track record with high-performance buildings.

Qualifications

• Proven history of Mechanical or Architectural Engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis.
• 12+ years of experience in designing mechanical systems for high-performing, commercial, industrial or mission critical/data center buildings.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience mentoring and training others in the field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact well with others and contribute to high quality deliverables.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and codes.
• Willingness to travel occasionally as required by projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce high quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals.
• Design complex air distribution and hydronic systems for large facilities.
• Design automatic building automation controls systems and specifications.
• Lead multi-discipline project teams to develop drawings and specifications for issuance.
• Attend client meetings and lead discussions with stakeholders.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to clients and team members.
• Direct and mentor engineers on project execution.
• Perform project management activities including proposals, budgets, and client interactions.
