Job summary

kW Mission Critical Engineering, a WSP company, seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Herndon, VA to design complex cooling and HVAC systems for data center facilities. You will lead projects and a team of mechanical engineers, delivering high-quality design and technical deliverables.

Responsibilities include coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers, attending client meetings, and guiding the project from concept through construction administration.

Qualifications

• Proven history of mechanical or architectural engineering with mechanical building systems emphasis.
• 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for high-performance facilities.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience mentoring and training others in the field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Solid working knowledge of mechanical systems and codes.
• Able to adapt to a fast-paced, collaborative environment with travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Produce high quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals.
• Design complex air distribution and hydronic systems.
• Design automatic building automation controls systems and specs for large HVAC systems.
• Lead project teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and owners.
• Attend client meetings and lead discussions.
• Communicate complex mechanical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
• Direct mechanical engineering requirements and integrate into facility designs.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
• Act as lead mechanical engineer on projects and direct the project team.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers.
• Perform project management activities including proposals, budgets, and client interactions.
• Coordinate technical development and scheduling; resolve design issues.
• Survey and evaluate existing conditions; perform construction administration.
