Job summary

The University of South Alabama's Maintenance Department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II to join the team on the Main Campus in Mobile, AL.

This full-time role performs building and equipment maintenance, supervises junior staff, responds to maintenance calls across electrical, plumbing and carpentry tasks, and operates welding and metalworking tools. Applicants must be able to lift up to 100 lbs and work scheduled hours with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 3 years in maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability for University coverage.
• Equivalence of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
• Supervise lower level technical staff and assign duties.
• Respond to maintenance calls across electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
• Perform electric and acetylene welding, brazing, and cutting.
• Operate power lathes, drill presses, threading machines, and grinders.
• Install ceiling tiles.
• Serve as essential personnel during University closings.
• Operate University vehicle to sites and transport materials.
• Move items weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Work at heights and in inclement weather; climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding.
