Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Facilities is seeking a General Mechanic to join the Campus Maintenance team. This hands-on role involves maintaining electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems across campus and supporting other trades as needed.

You will perform preventive maintenance, read blueprints, and respond to routine and emergency service requests. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds and a willingness to work a 7:00am–4:00pm schedule onsite on the

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of related maintenance experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, schedules and manufacturer specifications.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment used in general maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Read, interpret and apply blueprints, floor plans, schedules and specs for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and related equipment.
• Perform minor, routine and preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures; maintain building structures and furnishings.
• Assist other maintenance personnel (Electricians, HVAC mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, Painters, Sheet Metal Workers).
• Respond to service requests from building occupants, including emergencies, lighting, plumbing or other issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
