Job summary

The University of South Alabama seeks a Maintenance Mechanic II to perform a variety of trades in maintaining and repairing university buildings and equipment on the Main Campus, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of related experience, plus a valid driver's license. The position includes supervising lower level staff, handling electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks, and operating shop equipment.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in maintenance/repair of buildings, plumbing, or mechanical equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and maintenance of driving record to meet insurance requirements.
• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs trades in maintenance/repair of buildings and equipment.
• Supervises lower level technical employees—assigns duties and checks work.
• Responds to maintenance calls across electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
• Performs electric and acetylene welding, brazing, and cutting.
• Operates power lathes, drill presses, threading machines and grinders.
• Installs ceiling tiles and supports campus facilities.
• Drives a university vehicle to sites and transports materials.
• Works at heights, climbs stairs/ladders/scaffolding; works in inclement weather.
• Maintains regular attendance and may work overtime as required.
